Crocs Australia
Virtual Try-On Mirror

Augmented reality meets retail innovation

A frictionless, full-body AR experience that let shoppers try on virtual Crocs—no app, no devices, just pure immersion.

Project overview

We collaborated with Fusion Corporation and Zero10 inc to develop an augmented reality, virtual try-on mirror for Crocs Australia. This interactive retail installation used real-time body tracking and immersive 3D visuals to let users try on digital Crocs by simply looking into a smart mirror.

The brief

Crocs needed:

  • A hands-free AR experience

  • Fast onboarding with no downloads

  • Fun and shareable in-store activations

  • Accurate virtual shoe try-ons for varied foot positions

The concept: A standalone digital mirror that blends augmented reality (AR) and computer vision into a magic-mirror-style user journey.

What we supplied

Real-time body tracking

Using a bespoke solution developed by Zero10, users’ feet, legs, and posture are motion captured in real time—allowing for precise placement of 3D shoes even while moving.

Dynamic footwear overlays

We integrated photorealistic 3D Crocs models with responsive lighting and shadows to ensure realism across various in-store conditions.

Immersive mirror UX

Users walked up and instantly saw virtual Crocs on their feet—no setup, no delay, just AR magic.

Social sharing

A built-in camera captured snapshots, encouraging users to share their AR try-ons on social platforms, expanding brand reach organically.

Dynamic animated product transitions

Custom 3D product animations were produced to showcase the individual colourways as the user switched between them.

Analytics

Using the smart back-end developed by Zero10 we’re able to provide real-time usage statistics on users interacting with the mirror.

Tech stack

  • Complete hardware stack including,

    • High brightness display

    • Camera, iPad user interface and hidden processor.

  • Depth-sensing camera integration

  • Real-time GPU-optimized rendering

  • Custom UI overlay with gesture detection

  • AR asset pipeline for footwear visualization

The results

During the 10 days that the installation was live:

  • 1,643 users spent time trying on virtual Crocs

  • 1,787 users took selfies with virtual Crocs

  • Highly shareable brand activation with user-generated content

  • Reduced strain on physical stock during events

Why this matters for XR

This project is a proof-of-concept for how AR and XR can transform retail. By removing friction and adding surprise and delight, immersive tech becomes a brand differentiator, not just a gimmick.
